Not so wordless Wednesday

This is usually Wednesday, and wordless. But spurred on by professed love of Shel Silverstein yesterday, I decided that I was going to post a Shel poem. Or a few Shel poems. I don't think any of you will mind. . .

How Many, How Much
How many slams in an old screen door?
Depends how loud you shut it.
How many slices in a bread?
Depends how thin you cut it.
How much good inside a day?
Depends how good you live 'em.
How much love inside a friend?
Depends how much you give 'em.

Put Something In
Draw a crazy picture,
write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-gumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
'Cross the kitchen floor
Put something silly in the world
That ain't been there before.

So there you are, my friends. If I haven't given you enough love to fill your insides. well. I've slipped. Consider yourself loved. I am off now to do a loony-goony dance 'cross my kitchen floor.

Oh, and if you want your love in the form of a postcard from Portland, you have until tomorrow morning to send ME your address, or you can go to Mommified me, and hit CamiKaos up with it. (Since I'm going to her house TOMORROW! I'm so exited. . . my bags are packed, waiting at the door. I'm going to Kaosland. ha haa haaa haaaa!)

i love the one that starts out:

My dad gave me a dollar bill
cause I'm his smartest son
and I swapped it to Mort for 2 shiny quarters
(cause 2 is more than 1)

etc. I would have to find the book to put down the rest.

It's so cute and funny that we can sit here and quote Shel, isn't it!

I've always liked:

The baby bat screamed out in fright
turn on the dark, I'm afraid of the light.

I guess I am not being wordless either this Wedneday. Oops.

I like the one where Shel says that bad kids can vacation in Detroit or something like that.

I love both of those, as well. If I posted all the Shel poems I loved, I might as well be posting every book.
Then, there are the children's stories. . .

Have a good time in Portland. Dont forget Saturday Market if you have time.

Btw...I tried the Mac & Cheese recipe, turned out yummy. Thank you. It was a real treat. My low carb diet and my spirit needed one little comfort food and this hit the spot. Then, back on the wagon that I fell offa temporarily.

glad the recipe worked for you. It is a real treat, and one I don't make that often, myself. It's the perfect comfort food.

Oh the Shel quotes....

I will not play at tug-o-war
I'd rather play at hug-o-war

Where everyone plays and everyone hugs
and everyone rolls around on the rug.

I THINK that CLOSE is right.. it's been a long time. Think I'll have to reread the books.
